Plenty of disk space (new server with gads of space). And it is creating backups that are good (restored one to make sure).

I had a similar problem, mine would just ignore some backup files and delete others, I never did get to the bottom of it but I replaced the job step with a job step that runs a powershell script to delete the files, never had the problem again after that.
