also add the db autogrowth event to your trace, that will help you determine your point of interest !

Sorry for the late reply. The AutoGrow events are in the Default Trace so I don't need to include them in my trace, I can correlate them with my trace.
Final result, as far as I know. I reset the DB's involved to the FULL recovery model, reset the log files to autogrow, with a max size just in case, and ran a trace for 24 hours. No activity in the databases and no growth. Very odd.
I definitely agree with ALZDBA that I shouldn't have set to SIMPLE until I had looked in the logs with a log reader. If I ever encounter it again I'll do that first and copy the files (stop SQL Server and copy) just in case someone from MS asks for the files.

Nice feedback Jack.
Keep in mind 24h don't make a week, month , year 🙂
Did you trace on the same weekday as when you detected the growth ?
Well, it is a test instance .... So for the moment, I would just install a connection tracker to see who actually connects to my db and from where...

ALZDBA,
Thanks for the feedback. I know that 24 hours isn't a long period, but in this case I thought it was long enough because at least 1 of the DB's was growing about every 3 hours prior to my changes.
I'll definitely look into the connection tracker. Taking a vacation day today so won't get to it until tomorrow.
