ODBC Wierdness

  • Opening a table in our test instance using MS Query from Excel, or with Crystal Reports, any NUMERIC fields are not displayed in the list of available fields. Using MS Access to open the table produces the following: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server][Arithmetic overflow error for data type smallint, value = 10485856....

The table opens OK with TSQL and Visual FoxPro.

The same table opens without incident on our report server, which is on the same machine, with Excel Crystal Reports, and MS Access. There are no differences in the configuration settings of the 2 instances. I can find nothing on-line which addresses this. Help.

  • The first place I would try is the MDAC and make sure that both instances are at the same level. The is a tool to check on the MDAC site which you can reach at http://www.microsoft.com/data

  • Tend to agree that this might be a driver issue. Check MDAC
