ODBC SQL Authentication Failed

  • I have an MS Access front end accessing a SQL database. The front end previously accessed the database via a SQL authentication with no problem. I have had to move the database to a new server and all my applications that connect via NT Authentication have no problems. I can create the previous SQL Authentication ODBC connection and it tests out fine, yet the application fails to connect through, simply receive "ODBC Connection Failed". Customers use the application, hence they are stumped as am I. Any suggestions.

  • The database, server, etc. are stored in the Access database when you link the tables.  If you change the server in your ODBC, I think Access will adjust to that, but not if the database changes.  If the Access database is always going to point to the same SQL database, try going into the MSAccess database and under Tools > Database Utilities, you'll see Linked Table Manager (at least that's where it is in Access 2000).  Open the Linked Table Manager and click Select All and then OK.  It will bring up the SQL Server Login window based on your ODBC and it will update the links for the tables.

    Hope this helps.

  • Sam,

That was it, much appreciated. As soon as I saw your answer the light went on and I remembered. It had been so long since I have had to re-install this set up.

    Thanks again!
