Hello comunity
First , my OS is Windows server 2008 and with SQL express 2005.
My application use ODBC driver to connect to my sqlserver 2005 express database.
Also, on the surface area i choose "Allow remote connection" and on the sql server protocol i configure them with TCP port = 1433 for sql server.
Always the same error, "...does not allow remote connection...".
I disable my antivirus but the same problem occur.
I create Inbound and Outbound rules on firewall :
for SQL server i choose TCP IP port 1433
for SQL Browser i choose TCP IP port 1434.
Always the same error.
To solve this problem i open TCP IP and UDP port without fixing the port number for these 2 rules, that is the same to disable the firewall control.
I thinks is not normal.
Can someone could give more information or simple process documentation about solving this problems with firewall rules on Windows server 2008, or a better way to do that.
Many thanks
Luis Santos

Hi:
Not sure if this server is in production, but if not maybe you can rule out or focus in on the firewall by disabling it and attempting to connect?
If it's the firewall, here's a Microsoft article that can assist with the configuration --> http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175043.aspx
If not, verify that the service is up, running, listening on the port you think it is by checking the config manager, etc.
