I am a jr dba. I have not yet had to even set up odbc connections.
I have a user wanting to set up an odbc connection from his pc to a test box so that they can test their new MS Access front page. When he uses the wizard it cannot see the test box.
Also where can I get good info on odbc to more familiarize myself.

What wizard? What test box (sql server)?
ODBC connections (data sources) are maintained by using 'ODBC Data Source Administrator' in Control Panel / Administrative Tools. The help in the program should give you what each parameter does and may get you going. I do not know if there is any documentation about anywhere, never had to look myself, used trial and error
Far away is close at hand in the images of elsewhere.

I assume you mean that the drop down box on the ODBC data source administrator called "Which SQL Server do you want to connect to?" isn't showing the SQL server to which you want to connect. This box shows the SQL Servers you have configured from the Client Server Utility when you installed Client tools on that workstation. You can just type in a server name (assuming the server name is available through DNS) If you'd rather see the list in the dropdown, configure Client Network Utility.
