this might be a no brainer but I was just noticing that when I need to type numbers I almost always use the number pad on the right side of the keyboard. i find it easier to use because my fingers know exactly where the numbers are. I tried using the number bar on the top of the keyboard but it took so much longer for me to key in same numbers.

Either, or. Doesn't matter. Some folks I know prefer to use the numbers on the base keyboard and the keypad is for the mouse keys. Personally I prefer the keypad for numbers.

Think about your very first job--did you have to do a lot of data entry? I did and became quite adept at the number pad.
Some entry-level and clerical jobs actually test you on your keypad speed. (keep this in mind if the recession keeps up! It might come in handy!)
Just kidding...hopefully!

I prefer using the numbers across the top of the key board. I know where they are and can find them easily, whereas I have little experience with the key pad and for this reason don't bother to use it. It would be slower for me.
Usually I need to use numbers with text and so would loose time switching from the main keyboard to the key pad on the right side of the keyboard.

I've gotten back in the habit of using the top of the keyboard since I bought a second hand laptop off a contractor who had just recently upgraded his. He was a direct contractor, too. A senior, direct contractor.
