Number of databases

  • Is there any "limit" or recommended max. number of databases in one SQL Server 2000 ?

  • Apparently 32767 per instance of SQl 2000 is the limit. I have only supported a max of 15 dbs on a server, but Andy Warren has 250 so he might be better able to speak about the performance implications of loading a server like this.

  • We're not having problems with 250. 8g of RAM helps to be sure, and not all are active on any given day, probably anywhere from 60-80. I think the only issue you'd be likely to see with a 1000 or 10000 db's is having enough RAM to keep all the active ones cached sufficiently, but thats to be expected at some point!
