Dear All,
Iam planning to add two more CPU’s to each node on my SQL 2008 standard edition (Vmware virtualized 2 node failover cluster) on windows 2008 R2 from the current 4 CPU’s.
I have two clarifications:
1)Will this affect my current SQL licensing in any way
2)Am I required to run any scripts to let SQL know about this change in the hardware. How do I accomplish it?

The licensing question depends very much on your current license, especially running on VmWare.
About your second question, since you're using Standard Edition you need to restart the server in order to recognize the additional CPU's.

I guess I would add that the physical servers are licensed for SQL, so you can have n number of vm sql instances installed and not worry about any additional licensing.
I believe SQL is now licensed by the core, but that really depends on what your currently have licensed. I would think adding two more CPU's would require a change in your license.

FYI - on VMWare 4.1 (and higher) you can now setup and specify the number of cores and logical processors per core. This is very useful when you need to run Windows Server 2008 (Standard Edition) and need more than 4 CPU's.
This is also very useful if you are migrating from a physical server to virtual (and the hosts are not licensed), where the physical machine has 2 cores and multiple processors (e.g. quad, hex, 8-core, etc...) and you have 2 processor licenses. You can build out the virtual server with the same capacity as long as your version of VMWare can support that number of total CPUs.
