Hi All,
I have installed SQL Server 2005 in my desktop and have configured everything required to connect remotely as well.
I want to connect to this server from one of my test server. Problem is that it's not appearing in the "Remote Servers"
list. Why..? I tried by puting the server name but no luck. Wha am I missing.?
(I can connect to the test server from my PC). What could be the problem.?
Thanks.

Hi San,
Add an alias to this database in the configuration manager from where you are trying to access and see if that works with your remote machine.

OK I will try that n revert.
But why only my SQL is not appearing in list. Here we have installed SQL server in more than 50 desktops (for developers testing purpose). All the 50 comes in the list. Why not only my server.?

By default when you browse for SQL Servers to connect, all servers in the same network are identified, and for those not on the same network, we add these SQL server details as an alias in configuration manager.
Is your desktop on the same network as the other developers desk ?

Yes. It is in same network.
As I had mentioned, I am able to connect to TEST server from my PC. But not vice versa.
I had configured "Log Shiiping" in my server few days back. As it was giving some pbm, I had made some configuration changes that time. Logon user etc; I dont remember wot else I had modified. Could it be bcse of that.?

A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL server.
The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that
SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.(Provider: Names Pipes Provider, error-40-
Could not open a connection to SQL Server)(Microsoft SQL Server, Error:53)
I get this error when I dont give any PORT number for instance. When I give 1433 as port number then ERROR NUMBER changes. Message remain same.
Thanks.

Done... I asked network administrator to open port 1433 in firewall client. It's working now.
Thanks.
