No SQL Server Configuration Tools Shortcut

  • I'm installing multiple SQL Server 2012 servers (9 or more). Some servers have almost everything except Reporting Services features installed, but others only have SQL Server engine, Replication and Full-Text, Data Quality Service, Client COnnectivity and Management Tools (Basic & Complete).

I've found that when I install this subset of features the install doesn't create a Configuration Tools folder and SQL Server Configuration Manager shortcut. This is relatively easy to create, specially if you have existing installations to reference, but it is a waste of time and effort when it should be there.

Has anyone come across this? Is there any way of resolving it during the install, or does anyone know which feature must be installed to ensure the Config Tools Folder is created?

I'm not sure if this is actually what happened or if someone has deleted the folder. I've gone back over my build process and as far as I can see the folder was there last time I worked on the server. I'll see what happens when I build the next server with this configuration.

    Cheers

Nothing in SQL Server is ever so complicated that with a little work it can't be made more complicated.

  • Which edition of SQL Server 2012 are you installing and on which version of OS?
