No server found but no error either with Vista

  • Everyone else who is having problems with Vista and SS are getting some error messages. I'm not getting any at all and the service shows as running in task manager. But nothing comes up when trying to add the local instance to registered servers. The management studio starts up without error but it is blank. Browsing for servers though, has nothing. The OS is Vista Ultimate 64 bit SP1 and I installed the Developer Edition 2005, 64 bit, and then SS SP2. Everything seems to be up to date.

Any ideas what else I can try?

    Thanks in advance

  • Is the SQL Server Browser service running?

  • Sorry, I missed the 's' in my original post - yes, all the services are running as show in task manager (and in the services control panel app).

  • Have you tried just typing "(local)" in to the server name box? As opposed to browsing, I mean.
