I have several SQL databases in one instance on a server and am going to migrate to a larger server. For various reasons I need to do this gradually, a few users at a time.
I tried to test replication to keep the data synchronized in on both servers and found I cannot set it up because it cannot use nicknames like "local" or "default".
I can use other methods so it's not a major issue, but my question is this: how should I install future default instances so I can use replication if I decide I need it?
Thanks for any advice.

Delete the SQL registration in EM and reregister using the instance name. It is always best to be on the box (teminal in) that is being used as the source.

If I name it will it still be the default instance? To connect, will I need to use the instance name or will just the computer name be OK?
