Hi, I am getting following errors in my Cluster Validation report when trying to create a Windows Cluster.
I have 2 nodes DB01 and DB02 . Each has 1 public ip, 1 private ip (for heartbeat), 2 private ips for SAN1 and SAN2. The private ip's to SAN are directly connected via Network Adaptor in DB01 and DB02.
Can you please guide on this.

Validate Network Communication
Description: Validate that servers can communicate, with acceptable latency, on all networks.
Network interfaces DB01.local - PrivateSAN2 and DB02.local - Ethernet 8 are on the same cluster network, yet address 10.0.0.7 is not reachable from 10.0.0.5 using UDP on port 3343.
Network interfaces DB02.local.Org - Ethernet 8 and DB01.local - PrivateSAN2 are on the same cluster network, yet address 10.0.0.5 is not reachable from 10.0.0.7 using UDP on port 3343.
Analyzing connectivity results ...
Multiple communication paths were detected between each pair of nodes.
Ethernet 8 - is for SAN in DB02 server.

have you presented any shared storage to the nodes, if so, how?

Hi,
The shared storage is configured on disks and it is visible in both the nodes. The shared storage configuration done using iSCSI. The iSCSI initiator were also used in Sql server 2012 to set the iSCSI targets.
In Disk Management , I see the disks as Dynamic disks when I was trying to import the disks in DB02.
The storage used is HP P2000 G3 storage array. Whether there may be any compatibility issues ??

Sql server has no visibility of the initiator, please explain further.

I was trying to import the disks in DB02.
Do you mean online/offline the disks.
Please provide a more detailed description i'm happy if you want to message me some screenshots as this may help.

Hi White,
Thanks for your response.

Sorry, its not Sql server 2012, its Windows 2012.
I checked whether the disks are visible in DB02 in Disk management, it was not there, so, I imported the disks in DB02.
Attached the report in doc format. I understand the software update level is different and for that I have taken action on enabling the internet access.
But I have concerned about the storage. Is it something related to the network communication failure.
Your guidance will help a lot.
Thanks.

Have you installed and configured MPIO on both of the nodes? The report shows a large number of disks all MBR/Dynamic.

Hi,
Checked with system administrator and he said there is no MPIO . Do the disks needs to basic other than dynamic .

I've always had basic disks, but I doubt that is a major concern. The lack of MPIO would be a problem, as typically SANs are set up with multiple redundant paths to the LUNs. A windows server with two fiber channel cards connected to two switches with redundant paths to the SAN itself will see a single LUN as 4 (not really) independent disks. This of course leads to a whole host of problems. Check your setup to see if the disks (especially the one you may be putting your quorum on) show up as only one drive in Disk Management.

MPIO is not even in the equation yet, not unless you plan to use multiple TCP IP networks for your iSCSI disks. See my guide at this link[/url] for more info here.
Before you get anywhere clean up your NIC configs and more importantly resolve the Network validation errors detailed in the report

Thanks for your response. I will co-ordinate with system and network admin to resolve the network errors and then I will go with storage part if I still find it.
