Hello everyone! I was given a Access database that was created a couple years ago by someone else. The end user wants me to make some changes to some forms. The trouble i am having is i can not get to design view. I have tried the hold down shift key and does not work. I can see the objects (tables, queries, forms etc..) but can not make any changes to this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the extension on the Access file? If it is .mde or .accde, then you have a compiled version that cannot be changed. Another less likely scenario is that Access user security has been enabled, but that would generate a user prompt for a password at login.

It sounds like it has been secured by the original developer, though the mechanism isn't obvious - in the same folder where the file resides is there a file with the extension .mdw? If so it is likely that Access User Security has been activated. One possibility is to try importing all objects into a new empty database - you may or may not be able to do that. Also it would help to know what version of Access the users have, and what version you have.

Make sure that you have write access to the folder where the database is. You have to be able to create a lock (lck) file in the folder in order to make updates to the database.

Sean - I was able to figure it out. It was a stupid scrolling to fast and missed an option in privacy. I checked the check box 'Allow Full Menus' and it took care of my issue.
