Hello fellas i am new to SQL server i just installed it a few days back and i could only install client tools bcoz i don't have a server os so could by any chance i build a database? or is it necessary to have server components? i am doing an academic project in .Net where i want to use a sql database. F1!!!!

There are also trial versions available for download or with most certification books. They expire after a number of days, but they should get you started.

Download and install MSDE (Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine)
Then you can use client tools.

What OS are you running? You should have no problems on XP Pro or Win2K Pro, I wouldn't bet on (or try!) WinXP Home as it's largely an extension of Win98/ME.
