We have a number of large extracts being downloaded of Oracle on to SQL Server, these extracts are quite intensive and I am looking at ways to reduce the resources being taken up.
Current set up is using DTS with OLE DB For Oracle.
I would like to set up a push type service from the Oracle database and get a log reader to update the data on SQL Server, can a log reader on sql read an Oracle Log and how difficult is this to set up?
Is replication the right approach my thoughts are that if I can update the SQL Server data reading from the Oracle logs it will be far quicker than doing a complete grab all the time. Any help much appreciated as very new to these type of strategies.
