New SQL7 install

  • Hi There,

Brand new Server has rolled in for me this week and I'm building it concurrently with the production server. I want to copy accross all logins as well as DTS packages and jobs if possible (I'm running SQL 7, with the intent to go to SQL 2000 by Christmas). Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Should I copy the MSDB and Master DB's?

Also, it's been recommended by one of our ASE's that I put the swap file on a separate drive and make it twice the size of the physical RAM (which is 2GB, therefore the swap file would be 4GB). Any advice on this as well?

    Matt.

  • You can copy the master/msdb - easiest way is to top server1, copy files to server2 overwriting existing master/msdb. This works as long as location is exactly the same, often is. If not you can do it but you have to change a couple registry keys. I've got an article here on the site about movingto a new server that might be helpful.

On the swap file hopefully it never matters. I think 2g is plenty.
