New SQL Server installation - time out expired

    Guys,

    My employer gave me CD bought in 2000 SQL Server 2000 RTM 10 user license.

    I've installed SQL Server and applied SP3a. And now Houston we have a situation : whatever I do (either create 5GB db or restore a backup from another server ) it gives an error "Time out expired". Any thoughts what can trigger that behaviour. Thank you, Mike.

    Guys,

    problems I've been experiencing with the error "Time out expired" are related to underlying hardware. Server's disk I/O subsystem can't keep up with SQL Server Engine locking management requests (thank you, Rudy Komascar). Tempdb database must be large enough to compensate hardware problems. Thank you all.
