Hi All,
I have a Data Warehouse that has several hundred tables. Our Research Dept wants read only access to around 10 of these tables plus two views comprising of another 15 tables.
My question is: Is it more efficient and easier to maintain a new database just for Research or should I create a view/s? I thought it easier from a security and maintenance point of view to create them their own DB, but I don't have a lot of experience with views, so I wanted to get some opinions on which was the better option and why.
They will be sucking the data via ODBC into SPSS for analysis.
Thanks in advance
Angela

I would create views for the tables an create a role for the people in the Research Dept with rights granted to the views. Then you can move folks in an out of access to those views via the role making real simple security.

I'd use a view as well. Use separate dbs if they need to maniuplate the data separate from other users.
