We are going to be reformatting our DB server very soon and we have purchased 2005 Standard.
We will be updating our system from 2000 Standard and since we are not doing an upgrade but a fresh install does anyone have any suggested reading/thoughts for this?
I figure the fresh install should be a lot easier than an upgrade however I am not familiar with the new 2005 features. If there is anything that needs to be done to prep our databases and or server I'd like to prepare for it and would like to get a few opinions on the matter. TIA!

If you have enough time you can read the installation and configuration section in the BOL so that you will be familiar with the procedures and things during installation.

I found this white paper to be useful (if you have the time): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3d5e96d9-0074-46c4-bd4f-c3eb2abf4b66&displaylang=en
And the SQL Server 2005 Upgrade Advisor is invaluable: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1470E86B-7E05-4322-A677-95AB44F12D75&displaylang=en
Other stuff that might be useful: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/solutions/upgrade/default.mspx
Finally, this explains how to figure out which service packs you should download (although that'll probably be more straightforward now, there was some confusion when we did it last April). http://blogs.msdn.com/psssql/archive/2007/04/06/post-sql-server-2005-service-pack-2-sp2-fixes-explained.aspx
Good luck!
