I want to take my backups on a network location but when i use the following command
EXEC sp_addumpdevice 'disk', 'mydevice',
'\\servername\sharename\filename'
BACKUP DATABASE MyDB TO mydevice
it gives the operating system error permission denied, although i have full permissions on the share.
can anyone help on this. i would be great

Be sure that the ID that the SQL Server Agent is using has permissions on the network share.

Check that the SQL Server service log-on account is a domain user and not the Local System account.
SQL BAK Explorer - read SQL Server backup file details without SQL Server.
Supports backup files created with SQL Server 2005 up to SQL Server 2017.
