Hi all.
This has me bamboozled.
When we try to connect into SQL 2000 installed on Small Business Server 2003 from Winxp machines we get an error.
The error is:
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Invalid Instance()).]Invalid connection
There are three instances of SQL Server installed and we are attempting to connect into the default instance on port 1433. We have TCP/IP and named pipes enabled.
We can connect on the server, and run our web ASP app fine, but client machines cant connect via enterprise manager, odbc or query analyser.
I have applied SP3a. And MDAC 2.8.
The old half dead NT machine in the corner connects just fine.
Thanks in advance for any help on this one.

Do you have the firewall up on those Windows XP machines?

I have turned off the default XP firewall. In that its says clearly your pc is not protected on the firewall set up pannel when you run wscui.cpl
I have also ran sp3a on the XP pc that has the client tools installed.

What happens when you try to connect to the <server>,1433 (this forces a connection to the server on port 1433)?
