Hi,
I'm Installing SQL Server 2008 64 bit on Windows 2003 64 bit. I went through the link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx
and I have the below question regarding the .NET Framework 3.5
Is .NET Framework 3.5 software development kit (SDK) & .NET Framework 3.5 are same ? or they different?
Because, in the above link, it says to install .NET Framework 3.5 software development kit (SDK) before installing SQL Server 2008
and also says to install .NET Framework 3.5 before installing SQL Server 2008
please clarify me
Please direct me to the link where I can download the 64 bit .NET Framework 3.5
thanks

No, they are not the same thing. The .NET Framework 3.5 is exactly as the name implies: the 3.5 version of the .NET Framework. The SDK, on the other hand, is an application for development within the 3.5 framework.

I did not answer that part of the question because the link posted is not the .NET 3.5 SDK which is more than 1gig file size because it is Windows 2008 SDK.

I hear you. I was just clarifying that the .NET Framework and an SDK are not the same thing.

thanks,
I went to the below link and downloaded the .NET Framework 3.5 (which is common for 32 bit & 64 bit, I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong)
Is this the one we required prior to install SQL Server 2008? or something else
thanks

No that is not the correct link, here is the correct one I had added it but it was your link that was posted so I have edited my original answer.
You should also know you need to install only the x64 in x64 operating system because the x64 also installs the x86 because there is the need to also use x86 version dependent software.

I confused what exactly I need need to install regarding .Net Framework. Because, in the link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx
It's says install .NET Frame work 3.5 and I went to Microsoft link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en, which clearly says .NET Framework 3.5 (same for x86 & x64 ) and I installed it and restarted the Server.
But I'm getting the error. please see the attachment.
I will try to down load & install from the link given by peddie
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa569263.aspx now
thanks
