.NET 3.5 requirements for SQL 2008 upgrade

  • I'm trying to do an upgrade from SQL 2005 to 2008 and it immediately tells me I need .NET 3.5. First of all, I would think it would install this on its own like SQL 2005 did. Second, I've already installed .NET 3.5. I went out to microsoft.com/net and downloaded it and installed it on all my cluster nodes. I've rebooted each since then and when I try to do the upgrade it still tells me I need .NET 3.5. Is there something in the registry that isn't be updated?

  • I installed mine the RTM day and all you needed was .NET 3.5 but I think you now need .NET 3.5 SP1 the full file is 231 megs so you could download it and install it from your network drive with the X/ switch.

  • Hmmm...so that did it. I thought I had been downloading 3.5 SP1...file name was the same, file size was the same. And I'm still not sure why it didn't install it for me. Oh well, off and running now.

  • Yes, I think SQL 2008 requires you to have

    .Net 3.5 SP1

and if you have VS2008 installed, it wants SP1 for that as well
