Hi, A question for DBA's. If I cannot find Sand Boxes in our environment for some reason, is there a way online I can get SQL VM boxes, just for practice, learn, test some features?
For example I would like to try to set up a alwaysOn group.
Thanks,

Hi,
you can use the developer edidtion. This is free to use with all features like the enterprise edition.
Developer Edition Download 2017
With this version, you are able to build a AOAG.
Kind regards,

Beyond just a copy of Developer Edition, you'll also want to get a trial version of Windows Server (works for 180 days,) and some sort of virtualization solution. Options on the latter might be VMWare Workstation, if your PC supports it enabling Hyper-V, or several other solutions that are out there.

An alternative way of getting a Windows server is to set up an account for an Amazon EC2 or Azure server. There are free trial options available for small servers.

Another option (or additional) is to sign up for a free Azure account. You get a lot of free hours, services, VMs, etc.

I think I know which ones you're talking about. It's changed since the older days if it's the one I'm thinking about. It's cloud based now so I'm not sure what you get with that vs using the Azure free account. Here is the link to the hands on labs:

Look at downloading Oracle VirtualBox or VM Workstation Player. There may be some restrictions over commercial use which will need checking.
