The latest information that I have from Microsoft is that they do not plan to give credit on any of the current exams as part of the SQL Server 2005 certification. The elective system as it exists today will not be used for future SQL certifications and they will probably not offer an upgrade exam for those certified in SQL Server 2000. However, they may send out a free exam voucher or other incentive to get current MCDBA's to upgrade.
Of course everything is subject to change and the final information on SQL Server 2005 certification will probably not be released until six months after GA. As others have said, the need for qualified people on SQL Server 2000 will exist for many years after 2005 is released. Get the certification now and you will have a better foundation for the next wave of certification. Good luck...
