Hello everybody,
I need to upgrade a SQL 2005 instance to at least 2008 R2 to satisfy requirements for a particular application.
The 2005 instance is on system drive that is only 18GBs (very old server) - with only 1.2 GBs left (insufficient to complete the upgrade).
I am wondering if there is any way to run the upgrade (so it remains true upgrade) but change the file path for the 2008 R2 install. I have another drive on the server that has 100GB of space available.
I am trying to get my network engineer to virtualize the server and give it more space in the conversion process.
I am looking for suggestions or comments from anybody with experience doing this type of upgrade.
thanks,
Petr

Is there a particular reason you have to install it as an update as opposed to just a new instance with 2008 then migrating the databases over?
It sounds like other than trying to clear out some space on the partition that 2005 is on now you might be out of luck.

I have a lot of references to it as a linked server in different stored procedures. I guess the migration/moving might be the way to go,
thanks,
Petr
