Hi Joan & Noel,
I have verified the cliconfg utility settings and I have it pointing to 68.251.xxx.xx
I have added the sql server to the web server's host file.
After doing this I can ping the server using the server name.
I'm now getting a new error:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 10060
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (Connect(().
Connection failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 17
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Specified SQL server does not exist or access is denied.
Connection Failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 11004
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (Connect(().
Connection failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 6
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Specified SQL server not found.
Would you have any other ideas?
I really appreciate you help.
Thanks,
Don Anderson

Try changing the node in the host file from 192.168.1.10 to 68.251.202.10. Then see if you can still ping. If you can, try the ODBC configuration again.

At first I thought I had no fire wall installed as I had not installed ISA server on my
Small Business Server 2003. Port 1433 was not exposed to the out side network card.
All I needed to do was
run the configure Internet and e-mail connection wizard
Enable the fire wall setting
Add SQL port 1433 to the services to be accessed through the fire wall by Internet users
By making this change, I can now create a ODBC connection from the web server that
is on the SBS external network card.
Not sure if what I did is a secure way of allowing the 2 servers talk to each other?
The method does seem to work.
Thanks again for everyone's help
I can now start to convert my MS access database to a SQL server database.
Thanks again,
Don Anderson
