  • Might I suggest that you use GOOGLE, MIcrosoft's TECH NET and MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) to search for what you want and then if you have a specific problem post it on the appropriate forum at SSC.

    Tech Net

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx

    MSDN

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx

    Google

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

Each & everything about clustering if possible.

Everything? There have been entire books written on clustering that still don't cover everything. I don't think that anyone's going to give you everything in a forum thread.

Exactly my thoughts. You could spend an entire year working with clustering and you wouldn't know it all.

You haven't offered much information about the OS version you are interested in, the type of hardware being used, or the type of cluster being built. If you plan to use Windows Server 2003 and I provide details about clustering in 2008, you are going to be really bad off when you try to build a heterogeneous cluster in 2003 since it isn't supported. Likewise if I tell you all about Server 2003 and you try to use Server 2008, and I didn't tell you about SCSI-3 persistent reservations, your SAN configuration may not work out for you.

The level of effort that people are willing to put into answering responses, generally is equivalent to the level of effort that was put out by the person asking. Be more specific with your questions, or specific problems you are having and you will get better responses.

  • Since you are getting started, in addition to some reading, here are some videos: http://www.sqlshare.com/channel.aspx?cat=4a00c49a-6207-4ba8-952c-807481629761

  • Thanx for the reply guys, thanx a lot!!!

    Hii steve ,

in second video how to configure those nodes?

basically i want to configure clustering using VMWare on my test machine i installed windows server 2003 on three virtual machines. I made 1 machine as domain & other 2 machines added to domain.

How to configure nodes shown in second video?

    Thanx in adv.

  • Look at Perry Whittle's articles on here:

    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/65994/

    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/66246/

He uses Virtual Server 2005 but the fundamentals of the cluster configuration are the same regardless of the virtual platform you are building it on.

  • 1) since you mention this is for a TEST environment, I recommend you get Allan Hirt's book on SQL Server High Availability.

    2) If you DO decide to proceed to doing this in a PRODUCTION system, you REALLY need to get a consultant on board to assist you your first time around. Clustering and HA is an ADVANCED topic and you will be doing yourself and your company no favors if you roll your own here. There are many pitfalls and ways you can go wrong. Some of them will only show up when you most need the system to perform correctly.
