Necessary and sufficient requirements for enabling jumbo frames

  • I would like to know the necessary and sufficient requirements for enabling Jumbo Frames (JF) on the NIC. Also what would happen if I enable JF on my server, while rests of the other machines are not enabled for JF?

  • I though Jumbo Frames (JF) were an end-to-end solution which therefore would require JF enabled NIC's on the server, the client and possibly some router configuration.

A properly set up JF configuration will increase the MTU as long as the server is Windows 2008 or higher and the clients are Windows Vista and higher, both with JF enabled.

And I think that this question is probably in the wrong forum!

This also requires correct switch configuration too, work with your networks team on this
