Named Pipes

  • are there any effects of removing this from a prodution server?

  • only if clients need it. It tends to ferret out those using it so you can switch them TCP/IP.

Prior to 7, possibly with 7.0, it cannot be removed. I do not have any 2000 servers with it.

  • 7 is fine without it. In fact we had to get rid of it on the connection between our Web and SQL Server as they kept running into issues trying to determine which network the PDC was on and which was the connection between the two themselves since we ran a private network between them also.
