I am trying to install SQL2008R2 enterprize version on server 2. Can I use the existing Instance name ( suppose INST01 is already exist in Server1) Because when I am trying to use the same instance during installation I am getting this error 'access denied' when the user has the local admin access.

Are you trying to upgrade the existing instance or create a new instance?

Creating new instance on new server.

Then you need to use an instance name that does not exist on that server.

Shouldn't it be ok if the instances are on different servers?
I'm sure it's a different problem (I might be wrong:-P).

That's what I thought. Thanks

Be sure to run the setup program as an admin, got burned on that before.. My user has admin but it seemed to have problems so when I ran the setup as an admin I didn't have the same problems..
YMMV
