The log file of SQL 2005 database in one of my client is now 20 Gb, though the MDF file is only 1 GB. Whats the reason for this unexpected growth?
I shrinked the .ldf file in filegroup option. But is there any particular reason for this unexpected growth?

I would suggest that you start by reading Gail Shaw's article today about this subject. http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/Transaction+Log/72488/

Sometimes the "problem" is that a database is set to FULL RECOVERY, but someone forgot to set up regular transaction log backups (every 15-30 min or so is common).
