My Favorite SSCer

  • Where are the suck-ups? No votes for Andy, Brian or myself . We have shirts and books to give away

As far as Mr. Sufian (or Mrs?), it's annoying, but BKelley is right. Either give him advice and help him or ignore him. His attitude isn't great, but he is trying to learn something. Or maybe he's just goading you, not sure. Maybe ignoring him is the best thing.

As far as the rating system goes, here's how I see it. Any system can be "gamed" if you want to do so. Just as the # of posts doesn't really imply expertise (look how many "sorry, I don't know" posts I have), a rating doesn't either unless an expert reviews the posts and decides. In that case, couldn't we just have the expert answer questions? People register with Amazon with multiple identities and review their own books. People will do the same here if we had user ratings and we certainly don't have time to review all posts. It's tough to get 10 a day from me some weeks.

I think most people that hang around the boards posting and looking for answers know that BKelley, Remi, Antares, PhilCart, and more (sorry for those I can't remember) will give them a good answer. I know I second many of your posts to try and give people a feeling that someone else thinks the advice is good.

But more importantly, how about some votes for the editor

  • Steve - I'd like a book please....I've only said (about a hundred times...) that this is the best darn site there is - & soooo "as good as it gets.." that I'm hard pressed to think of ways of improving anything on this site (for how can you improve perfection ?!?!)....

does that earn me a book yet ????

ps: one more thing - sufian is definitely Mr. - his name is Mohammad...

I'd vote for you guys all the time

I'd suck up to anyone for a tee shirt

Far away is close at hand in the images of elsewhere.
    Anon.

  • Sorry but that offer doesn't stand for me... I actually supported you guys and bought all the books so I won't be a suck-up now and try to get another free copy .

    A t-shirt would be nice though .

  • Steve you guys do a great job and when you need a lift just pull your stats and gloat over the number of people who visit the site. Hard numbers are better than sweet talk any day.

how was that for sucking up? I vote you send my t-shirt to sushila then she will receive a part-payment for her advise. Beside she does a much better suck-up than I

  • As long as we're sucking up....

I see SSC as a community.  Like any community or neighborhood, you have good neighbors and then you have some that are less than desirable.  You can make your life and that of those around you miserable by battling with an unkind neighbor, or you can take the high road like Brian did with sufian and which I respect him for.  By and large, the people here are freindly and helpful to a fault and I've commented on this before.  But there's exceptions to every rule.

Being nice doesn't cost anything.  It takes some extra effort sometimes, but it's better in the long run IMHO.  Things have a way of coming back around to you.

    Now where's my shirt?

    Now where's my shirt?

I hope you're wearing it, otherwise your co-workers are probably looking at you funny. Okay, okay, bad joke!

  • sswords - you call that "sucking up" ????????

All you did was philosophise a bit about Life in general and ssc in particular...where's the kudos due to the "site owners" ?!?!

I have long admired your skill with words but (IMHO) - "NO SHIRT FOR YOU....COME BACK ONE YEAR..." (quote changed from Soup Nazi to suit the occasion...)

    Mike..thx for the backhanded compliment...

**ASCII stupid question, get a stupid ANSI !!!**

  • No it's nice... good things you don't have boxer shirts and pants to go with that .

  • Looks like we're gonna have to start a sitcom section you and me .

  • I'm willing to start anything that's not a "moo point" Remi...

**ASCII stupid question, get a stupid ANSI !!!**

  • I vote for steve jones.

  • Or to go with a standard phrase from my military days:

"Request denied. Resubmit in 30 days."

  • LOL...well we do have a 'business casual' dress policy, but it's not that casual.  Although if I were allowed to telecommute like sushila, I'd probably be in my spiderman jammies.

Seriously though If I had to vote, I'd be at a complete loss.  I've had so many people help me here and I've seen many other people take great pains and a good deal of their time to help others that they don't even know.  That's the true spirit of a community to me (if I may have license to philosophise a bit more )  I do have to throw kudos to the site owners for founding ssc and keeping it going so well all this time.

  • I must have served in different army. They were never that polite or verbose when turning down a request.
