I read here the list of required OSs for MDS http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee633742(v=sql.105).aspx
it looks as though Vista and Windows 7 Professional is on the list, but I don't see update about any kind of Windows 8 Pro there, and that's what I've got...kind a makes me...sweaty and nervous...I am trying to replicate a rig I had at a recent gig but i'm not sure I have the right os...
Will Windows 8.1 Pro support MDS or must I have Server 2008 or better?
thanks a lot

PS I tried to add MDS to an existing instance, but the MDS Configuration manager complained it could not find microsoftdataservicesloc.msi, which was peculiar, because I could! Leads me to suspect the addition of MDS was incorrect or misplaced or some other error causing the msi to be in the wrong location, so I am starting from square 1.
but its not a big deal, nothing real happens there.
(remember when you would routinely reformat drives?)

I haven't tried it myself, but I see no reason why not, as long as your Windows 8 runs IIS.

Thanks Koen...you rattled my cage enough to get to the bottom of it.
I found out that you need a little bit more English on the ball to get IIS straight for MDS on Windows 8.1 as revealed here (with a repeat of the error)...
thanks very much

Ah yes, that error.
I have been faced with that one as well.
Another one is when you already have IIS, and MDS is not the first website. That can give troubles as well.
