multiple instances visible

  • OOPS Posted to wrong forum.

I have a windows 2003 server acting as the front end application sever looking at a MSSQL 2K box with 4 instances runing on it.

The application server can see all the instances running on the database server except it doubles up on one of the instances

this can be seen using the command osql -L and via EM when adding a new server.

The out put from isql -L command looks like

    server/instance1

    server/instance2

    server/instance3

    server/instance3

    server/instance4

has anyone come across this before and how do you fix it

  • Just a guess but couple of things worth checking :

check if that instance is listning on multiple ports.

Serach the registry at the client to see if there is any entry for server/instance3

  • How many services are running on the server. Are there really 4 instances? I'd be sure there isn't something mucked up on the server as well.

  • Hi It looks like the alias was setup on the app server. I have recommended removing this.. Will wait and see once someone OKs the change

    Thanks for your help
