We're going to set up a Win2003 cluster on two dual cpu with 8 GB of ram systems. I'd like to install multiple instances of SQL server so i can switch instances on the computers.
When i use 3 instances of sql server can they each can use 2 GB?? I believe they can but i like to check this with you guys before buying 8 GB instead of 4.

A single SQL Server instance is not really aware of other instances running on the same windows server. I would expect that each of the instances would be able to use 2GB. It might be worth posting this question on the microsoft SQL communities site. You might get an answer from a MS techo.

We have active/active setup. 2 GB is not the limitation as long as pae awe is enabled. For active/Active, you should use fixed memory config. instead of dynamic. You need ensure the total fixed memory of all your instances configured can not be more than 7 Gb (1GB for OS and cluster as recommend by MSFT)
