Multiple instance with same port No#

    Hi,

    Quick question (i think)

    Can you have a multiple of named instances on the same server with the same port number?

    I suppose we can not run mutiple instances on same port.

    No. Only a single instance can listen on a given port. Why do you ask the question?

    we have multiple instances on our sql server. To access our default instance we need to access servername\defaultInstance on port 1433.

    We need to access our test instance on the same server and we have been advised by our dba's that we can connect to it using the same port number (1433) using servernameamedInstance .
