I installed installed MSSQL on Windows 10, but in the list of applications and features, Microsoft SQL Server 2014 is listed as unavailable. No idea why? Any insight would be helpful.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Quick question, did the pre-installation checking phase of the installation fail on any check?

All checks passed (eventually, after many install attempts)

Is there enough free space on the hard drive? 2014 requires aprox. 6Gb

Further on this, have you checked the installation log file? It can be found in "%programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\130\Setup Bootstrap\Log\"

I haven't had the chance to look at the log file yet, I was wondering where it was as well. Will revert back later.

Can you attach a screenshot of the 'not available', as I'm not sure what you're looking at.

I had a look for the log file. I don't have a 130 folder in Microsoft SQL Server. I looked in the other folders, there doesn't seem to be a log file either. Microsoft SQL Server is not the only app listed as unavailable. I looked into this and found others with the same issue, but not a solution.

I have not seen a condition like that before -- can you look in that bootstrap location to see if there are any errors in either a summary.txt or a detail.txt?
EDIT -- never mind, you said you cannot. Hmm. Given that this is Windows 10, can you try to reinstall and see if that helps? Without logs it's going to be hard to advise solutions.

SQL Agent cannot run as part of SQL Express. This is normal.
