Hi
I am reasonably new to SQL, but am very interested in using MSSQL Express for our
I have tried using a copy of SQL2000 Standard Edition and what I’m doing works fine.
Has any one got any Ideas??

Could be one of a million things.
My first guess with this level of information is that you are not defining the ODBC link with the default instance name e.g. machinename\SQLEXPRESS

Hi
Unfortunately not that easy. It does work on the local machine on which I am using the instance name, but when I use exactly the same settings on a remote machine it says the connection failed and that the database does not exist or access is denied.
Its almost like there is a setting not allowing remote connections, but I cant find it anywhere.

Yes, you are correct, by default you cannot connect remotely to sql server 2005. A quick google will find the steps required, my search turned up:

I havent read it but if thats rubbish, have a look yaself, good luck!
