I received the following error message when attempting to backup a database.
Msg 3271, Sev 16: Nonrecoverable I/O error occurred on file
I looked on Microsofts web site and found nothing that helps.
Thanks
Glen

Thank you for the link. I will do some additional research and check the available disk space.

Are you using a third party tool other then a SQL Backup?
Are you using SQL Backups?

Sorry...
Let me rephrase... are you using a third party backup tool other than using SQL Backups?
And at wat time do your backups run?
Are you making use of SQL Backups?

We are actually using both. We read several articles related to the MSg 3271 error. A couple of them stated the issue could be caused by the database or backup being placed over a bad location on the disk. We ran CHKDSK and no errors were reported. We read some other articles that stated the previous backup file could be corrupt. Therefore, I renamed the old backup file and ran a new backup manually using the same name. I checked output file attached to the job executing the backup the next morning and the backup ran successfully.
The individual who runs the 3rd party backup utility is out this week. I am going to share my findings with him once he returns.
Thanks to all that responded to my request.
