MSDE Install Issue

  • Hey all -

I've been trying to get an installation of MSDE to take on an XP SP1 machine with no luck.

Setup seems to get most of the way through, but then errors out.

I was able to pull this out of the Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Install\cnfgsvr.out file:

"Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 126 (sql server)."

There's nothing registered in Add/Remove programs, and I've completely removed what was in the \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server folder, but I still cannot install MSDE. Another thing, I tried to install the client tools off of the SQL Server 2k CD, and I get the same error when trying to register a SQL server in Enterprise Manager.

I have a feeling a wipe and reload may do the trick, but I'd like to figure out what's really causing the issue. Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Thanks Rudy...What I ended up finding was the file SQLSVR32.DLL was missing out of the SYSTEM32 folder. I replaced it with what came with the MSDE installation, and, everything worked like a charm after that. Weird....
