MSDE in Personal , Entireprise Sql

  • Hi have a good day ,

I Buy SQL 2000 Personal Edition , and SQL 2000 Enterprise

then I use WinMerger ( Files Compare Software ) to compare

CD-ROMS of SQL 2000 Personal and Sql 2000 Enterprise

And I found that they have the Same (MSDE Files) ,

And After install (MSDE Only) for both editions I used SELECT @@VERSION

And they have the same version ???

so I downloaded the versions again from rapidshare , to make sure I am not scammed .

and I found the same result !!!

    My Question :

Is MSDE that Microsoft says it's free , is the same MSDE included in

SQL 2000 Personal and Sql 2000 Enterprise ? , and On there web site ?

IF the Answer is yes ? ,

Then where is the limitations ? 2GB of database size , and 2 RAM GB

    Thank you

  • MSDE is a scaled back version of SQL server that is Free. Do not confuse it with Enterprise Edition or Personal Edition.

If you are just installing MSDE - the edition makes no difference because there is only MSDE not MSDE Personal nor MSDE Enterprise.

  • Thank you for your replay ,

Your answer explained everything to me ,

So I assume that After I Install the SQL 2000 Enterprise it will update MSDE that came with it , or may be it's has another MSDE embedded with it to install !

    have a good day

  • You're welcome

  • Once you install MSDE, there is no upgrading it to another version like Standard, Enterprise, etc. You can install Enterprise as another instance of SQL on the same machine, but it will be totally separate, with its own set of databases, install files, services, etc.
