I have inherited an MSDE server that is experiencing problems. I cannot troubleshoot these problems very well because there are no SQL counters. I checked and there is no sqlctr.ini or sqlctr70.dll file on the disk. Is there a way to install these counters?
Here is what @@version reports:
Microsoft SQL Server 7.00 - 7.00.1063 (Intel X86)
Apr 9 2002 14:18:16
Copyright (c) 1988-2002 Microsoft Corporation
MSDE on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)
This is running on a Windows 2000 box.
Thanks,
George

Thanks for the quick reply. I've scoured the web for days trying to find an answer to this and I have run across this thread and others with the same or similar advice. Problem is there is no sqlctr.ini file on the computer. Do I just copy this from another sql 7 box and then try to load them? Is there not a dll involved as well? The last thing I want to do is hose up this computer.
Thanks,
George

I don't see any problem copying .ini file from other server.
Try first without copying the dll, let it use local available dll.
I don't think it is going hose the system becuase you are copying just .ini file which provides driver and counter information...
Make sure you sqlctr.h file too..
