MSDE

  • Is it possible to develop a sql server in a sql server standard edition and transfer it via disk (eg CD ROM) to a computer running MSDE ?

  • From KB 321518.

"MSDE 2000 is a data engine that is built and based on core SQL Server technology. With support for single- and dual-processor desktop computers, MSDE 2000 is a reliable storage engine and query processor for desktop extensions of enterprise applications. With the common technology base that is shared between SQL Server and MSDE 2000, developers can build applications that can scale seamlessly from portable computers to multiprocessor clusters."

  • You simply Generate Scripts for the database and run them against the MSDE install. There are very few things you can't do in MSDE. They mostly involve server linking total database size.

  • Another method is to detach the database and copy it to the CD. Then reattach it locally.
