MSDB Tables/Views

  • Nils Gustav Stråbø (3/6/2012)

I don't complain about the functionality of that specific view, I'm just being an annoying pedantic 😀 Every QOTD has one.

However, if you were really pedantic, you would have realized that the phrasing of the question is: "Which table/view contains a row ...", not "Which table/view returns a row ...". The WHERE clause only affects what the view returns, not what it (or the underlying table) contains.

(So the true pedantic post would have stated that a view never contains rows, unless it is an indexed view. And it would have included a whiney remark about demanding back the oh so precious points that you were robbed off)

PS: To John Hanrahan - please take this comment as I intended it, as a stab to the annoying pedantic that, indeed, appears to be inevitable on the QotD topics. I did in fact enjoy this question very much, and I think it is an excellent question. I hope to see more questions from you in the future.

  • I see that I have failed BIG TIME in my first attempt to be a QOTD whining pedantic :crying:

I promise to never try to be one again...

That may be a difficult promise to keep .....

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

  • Glad you all enjoyed the question. I enjoyed the 'whininess' and 'pendaticness' of some of the responses. It's all good.

At least I got a point today!

Kudos to you John for submitting 😀

I was thinking of posting a lousy, incorrect buggy question, to get slated and flamed, just so I would get noticed :w00t:

  • Nice question. Reviewed to database mail topic once again in a while.

    Thanks

  • This one forced me to go and dig a bit. Thanks, John!

There's still plenty of room available for future QotD's, you know!

  • Thanks for the QOTD John. I too had to go digging on this one.

  • Let's see now: can I do better than Nils? 😛

Well it's a good question, a good explanation, utterly incorrect answer (but Hugo already pointed out that Nils should have said that), I can't whine about not getting the point because I did get it, so where on earth do I go from there?

Ah, yes, got it: given the second sentence of the explanation it would perhaps have been useful to include a reference to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190630.aspx in addition to the reference given. 😀

  • Good question. Thanks for submitting.
