MS03-031

  • Hi,

I run MS Security Checker 3.32 on my SQL boxes. All are prompted for missing MS03-031 even after I applied it twice to a test box. Anyone experiencing this?

    Thx.

  • You may try Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer.

  • What SQL Server service pack was on those SQL Servers?

  • all are SQL2K with SP3 plus MS03-031.

  • it is jst a "note". You can ignore it.

If you use hfnetchk from Shavlik. It will show you something like:

    * SQL Server 2000 SP3

    NOTE MS03-031 815495

  • i used Shavlik .:-)

  • I would trust the following

If you run this quick query against the master database:

    SELECT @@Version

    and it returns the version:

    8.00.0818

    Then you are ok.

    See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;821280 in reference.

In our shop we treat the hfnetchk as a guide and not the final say on patch/update compliance. If we get an all good, then it is likely all good. If we get something that is not up to date yet we know it was applied, we do a more detailed examination of registry settings and .dll versions to make sure. Any anomalies are noted in a system configuration log for future reference the system is noted as patched for that specific item. Fortunately, these kinds of issues are not the norm and we have only a few that are not "playing nice" with the hfnetchk tool.

Funny thing about people and their computers...

The computer is completing millions of processes every second, but the user still thinks it is too slow.
