MS Access Datasource - File already in Use

  • Hi,

    I receive the following error:

Could not use ''; file already in use.

When attempting to extract data from a MS Access datasource.

Is there anyway to specify to DTS to get the data anyway?

  • Don't know of any definite reason why MS Access cannot be imported without locking, but I guess an open record may cause dts some confusion. Also, if a record is being updated across multiple tables just as you hit it, the integrity of the data will be comprimised and dts is quite correct in not attempting to import it.

In any case, it is never wise to use an active data soource when using dts or any other etl tool.

My policy is to use copies of the data only. IE - Have a batch file command that runs in the package at the first step, creating a copy of the access db. That way you get a static data set to work with.
