Moving the ReportServer database to another server

  • Hi all, I need some help figuring out a problem I am having with reporting services.

My goal was to move the ReportServer database from one server to another. they are both sql2005 servers.

I opend reporting services configuration manager. Under database setup, I changed the server name, from the original server where ReportServer DB was running, to my target server.

Then I specified the credentials and clicked on apply.

I am not sure that the change actually took, but ever since, I cant connect to the report server from the configuration manager. I get the following error message Call was canceled by the message filter. (exception from HRESULT: 0x80010002 (RPC_E_CALL_CANCELED))

I cant connect to reporting services server from Management studio either.

I get the following error message:

the machine could not be found (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient)

any help on the will be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Sandra

  • SMPSMERS,

Did you get it worked out?

Seems to me like if you moved the ReportServer and ReportServerTemp dbs to another server, verified the account that you are connecting with, and change in the config tool.... that should do the trick.

Does reporting services connect with a service account? Can you verify that account has proper permissions on the new data server?

Let me know if you got it working, and how, 'cause I may be asking for help!

  • is the new server running sql 2005 express edition, because the express editions come with remote connections shut off, by default. you can change it though by using the surface area manager.

  • Yes I got it figured out. Actually After playing with it all day long I decided to let it sleep and oh surprise! the next day it was all back to normal... The change had not actually taken, but it was as easy as changing the database on the configuration manager. I have no idea what was wrong......

Thank you so much for asking though
